About Objectified Body Consciousness Scale

Self-objectification was measured using McKinley and Hyde’s (1996) Objectified Body Consciousness Scale (OBCS). The OBCS is comprised of three subscales (surveillance, body shame, and control beliefs) to which participants respond on scales ranging from 1 (strongly disagree) to 7 (strongly agree). For the current study, only the body surveillance and body shame scales were used, consistent with prior research (Tiggemann & Kuring, 2004; Tiggemann & Slater, 2001; Muelenkamp & Saris-Baglama, 2002).
