About Parental Authority Questionnaire
To assess the authoritative parenting style Parean authority questionnaire by Buri (1991) was administered on the participants in the present study. It is a 30 items self-report questionnaire design to calculate the parenting style employed by parents. Prior permission to use the questionnaire in this study was obtained from Buri. The scale comprises six distinct subscales for each participant; mother’s permissive style, mother’s authoritarian style. mother’s authoritative style, father’s permissive style. father‘s authoritarian style, and father‘s authoritative style.
By Adding score on items 1, 6, 10, 13, 14, I7, 19, 21, 24. 28 permissive style would be obtained. For Authoritarian style items 2, 3, 7, 9, 12, 16, 18, 25, 26, 29 added and for Authoritative style item numbers 4, 5, 8. 11, 15, 20, 22, 23. 27. 30 was used.
Individuals are asked to rate the frequency of their subjective experiences about their parents while rearing them on a five-point Likert scale ranging from “strongly disagree” to strongly agree”. According to the author, the following internal consistencies are reported with Cronbach alpha of .7 8 for mother’s authoritative style, .86 for mother’s authoritarian style .8I for mother’s permissive style .92 for father’s authoritative style; .85 for father‘s authoritarian style, and .77 for father’s permissive style. The authoritative parenting questions were extracted from the scale for present research and the scale yielded reliability with Cronbach alpha of.715 which is acceptable.
