Eighteen items were removed, four items, because they had an 80% minimum response rate for the sample (i.e. ‘‘I feel guilty that I might pass FAP to my children’’, ‘‘It is important for me to let people know I don’t have cancer’’, ‘‘I feel desirable’’, ‘‘I am a physically fragile person’’) and 14 items, were removed because they had less than the cut-off for item-total statistics (i.e. ‘‘I feel self-conscious about my scar(s)’’, ‘‘I do not see myself as a person with an ongoing illness’’, ‘‘I feel closer to my family now’’, ‘‘Nobody knows my bod better than I do’’, ‘‘I am very aware of my bowel sensations’’, ‘‘I feel like I should be a role model for others with FAP in my family’’, ‘‘I am restricted in my activities’’, ‘‘I am uncertain about the future’’).
