About Traumatic Stress Symptom Checklist

This 23-item self-rated questionnaire addresses traumatic stress (17 items) and the symptoms of depression (6 items) in respondents. Each response is coded as follows: zero, no problem; 1, a minor problem; 2, a marked problem; and 3, a major problem. The scale includes 2 additional items that assess distress (range, 0 [none]–3 [profound]) and global disability (range, 0 [none]–3 [profound]).
When used with a cutoff score, this questionnaire has been shown to reliably predict both DSM-IV-defined PTSD and major depression in earthquake survivors (Basoglu et al., 2001). In our study, a cutoff point of 24 from the first 17 items of the checklist was used for a diagnosis of PTSD. On the other hand, the total score of 23 items was used in the regression analysis.
