About Implicit Association Test
Objectification was assessed with an implicit association test (IAT; Greenwald, McGhee, & Schwartz, 1998). This IAT measured the automatic association of self-relevant words (e.g. me, myself) with body relevant (e.g. breast, thighs, buttocks, legs) and mind-relevant (e.g. brain, intellect, mind, smart) words. Scoring of the IAT followed the precedent of Greenwald, McGhee, and Schwartz (1998). A high score on the objectification IAT reflected a greater association of the self with the body, as compared with the mind attributes (i.e., implicit objectification). The Objectification IAT revealed a slight tendency for women to associate themselves with the mind more than body words (M = -61.26, SD = 96.19).
