Abduction

n.1. movement of a limb away from the midline of the body. Any muscle that produces such movement is called an abductor. Compare adduction.

2. the act of taking a person away by force or deception.

3. the process of studying an event or phenomenon in order to generate possible explanatory hypotheses. The object is to determine which hypotheses should be tested, rather than which should be adopted as correct. —abduct vb.
