Background/Description
The purpose of the Emotional Development Scale is to assess a child’s emotional development by determining the child’s level of mental organization, including autonomic, limbic, and prefrontal functioning (Birck, Hart, & Hellborn, 2016).
The EDS is designed to be used by psychologists after brief training, and it does not necessarily require knowledge of NADP. The assessment is intended to aid intervention planning according to the principle of “what works for whom?” (Roth & Fonagy, 1996). In 2012, the development of the EDS for 4–12-year-olds began in collaboration with Hogrefe Ltd. in Denmark, with a group of 24 psychologists contributing to the development.
Administration, Scoring and Interpretation
To administer the EDS Urdu, you will need the following materials:
A copy of the EDS Urdu questionnaire for each child.
A pencil or pen for each child.
Instructions:
- Explain to the child that you are going to ask them some questions about how they feel.
- Give the child the EDS Urdu questionnaire and a pencil or pen.
- Ask the child to read each item carefully and to rate it on a 5-point Likert scale, with 1 = never true and 5 = always true.
- Once the child has completed the questionnaire, collect it from them.
