About Clinical Outcomes in Routine Evaluation Outcome Measure

The CORE Outcome measure, (CORE-OM)(Evans et al., 2000) is a self-report questionnaire designed to provide a global measure of current psychological distress, (Gray & Mellor-Clark, 2007). The CORE is an evaluation system for psychological services that was developed collaboratively by researchers and practitioners in order to inform client care, (Barkham et al., 1998). The measure consists of 34 statements which the patient is asked to endorse on a 5-point scale, according to how they have felt in the previous week. Mean responses are calculated to obtain a total score and four subscale scores: subjective wellbeing (4 items); common problems or symptoms (12 items); life functioning (12 items); and risk of harm to self or others (6 items).
