Abstract of the thesis
XXXX Oy commissioned this study. The company business watch and jewellery retail trade, import and export. The purpose of the study was to identify the current employee motivation level at XXXX Oy. The study provided theoretical information of motivation, research of current employee motivation level and motivation techniques for the commissioning company. The current motivation level was examined according to Frederick Herzberg’s Motivation-Hygiene theory and Victor Vroom’s Expectancy theory.
Motivating employeesEmpirical evidence was gathered through a questionnaire send to all sellers and store managers of XXXX Oy. The results of the questionnaire were analysed according to theories. Suggestions were drawn based on the theoretical background of the thesis, the results of the research and the author’s experiences and observations. Based on the empirical evidence it was concluded that the employees of XXXX Oy are motivated but the current reward system does not motivate employees. The questionnaire response rate was approximately 70 percent, so the results can be considered reliable. Overall the results were positive since the employees were motivated and there were more satisfying than dissatisfying factors. Findings indicate that the reward system could motivate employees but it has to be modified. The thesis offers suggestions on how to maintain the motivation level, how to address non-motivational factors and how the reward system could be modified.
