Insomnia is a sleep disorder that can make it difficult to fall asleep, stay asleep, or get enough restful sleep. It can affect your daily life and make it difficult to function at work, school, or home.

There are many causes of insomnia, including:

  • Depression
  • Pain
  • Medical conditions, such as chronic pain, sleep apnea, or restless legs syndrome
  • Medications, such as decongestants, cold medications, and some antidepressants
