About Issues Checklist

The IC comprises 44 issues that are a common source of conflict between parents and adolescents (e.g., coming home on time, telephone calls, fighting with siblings). Raters assess the frequency and perceived anger intensity (rated on a 5-point scale; 1 = calm and 5 = angry) of specific disputes over the course of the last 2 weeks. The IC has been shown to discriminate between distressed and nondistressed families, and it correlates with other self-report and observational family interaction measures (Robin & Koepke, 1990; Robin & Weiss, 1980).
Two scores were computed for evaluation. First, anger per discussion was obtained by multiplying each frequency estimate by its associated intensity, summing these cross products, then dividing by total frequency estimates (Barkley et al., 1999). In addition, the frequency of arguments endorsed during the past 2 weeks was calculated and divided by 14 to obtain the average frequency of arguments per day.
